I could probably find much better examples, but off the top of my head:

- Bomberman -> Bomberman Act Zero

EVERYONE hated this one. Even Hudson Soft refers to it only as the butt of a joke nowadays.

- The proposed Klonoa wiimake’s NA design (on the right).

This redesign was nipped in the bud before release, and for good reason. The bizarre ear changes were bad enough, but Klonoa without his iconic hat isn’t Klonoa.

- Banjo-Kazooie -> Banjo: Nuts & Bolts

FUCKING SQUAREBEAR

Not only are the redesigns ugly as all sin, the reason given was “to evoke that classic blocky polygon look of the N64”

Which is fucking stupid, and looks horrifying with the smaller, less cartoonish eyes they added to everyone.

I think Boggy got off the worst of the redesign, though, YEESH.

- Spyro -> Skylanders

Spyro’s never had a great design but uh
