I’m not sure I’d call them “pretty smart”, but they do have surprisingly good memories.
Best scene was probably the scene with Kal-El in “custody” of the army because it highlighted the goofy, Super, but still human interaction that makes Superman so good
In general, the movie was just very dour, though. It made it really had to feel invested in the characters the longer it dragged on.

So I saw Man Of Steel.
Zack Synder’s cinematography is still complete trash, you could make a dangerous drinking game out of all of the unnecessary shot-ruining camera zooms and shaky-cam.
Didn’t like the use of flashbacks either, the movie would have been a lot better if it opened with the oil rig scene, cut back in time to Krypton’s destruction and then proceeded with everything else chronologically.
LOTS OF UNNECESSARY SCENES IN GENERAL, some of them really cringe-inducing. You could really tell Christopher Nolan worked on the story because there was way too much untrimmed fat for a 2+ hour film.
I actually liked the ending, though! The final battle was easily the best directed part of the movie and the climatic moment was surprising for reasons I won’t spoil. I can definitely say that it’s pissing off a LOT of people though, and I fully understand why, but I personally think they handled it pretty well.
I honestly wouldn’t recommend seeing it in theaters. Wait until it’s on cable or film streaming services.
